Ronald Lee ‘Ronny’ Helberg

Ronald Lee “Ronny” Helberg, age 70, of Lohn, Texas passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at M.D. Anderson in Houston. Ronny was born November 14, 1948 in Abilene, Texas to Orville F. Helberg and Margaret Pauline (Hohhertz) Helberg. He received his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Tarleton State University. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He married Laura Beth Gage on December 1, 1979 in San Saba, Texas. In his early years, he was a rodeo clown in Abilene’s Junior Rodeos and worked in the oilfield for Dresser-Atlas. Ronny liked being his own boss. He was a farmer…a true steward of the land. He also owned and operated Lotex Grain Inc., Lohn Fertilizer and Rocking H Farms. He has lived in the Lohn community for over 37 years and was very active in the community he loved. He served on the board of directors of the Lohn Valley Improvement Association, Lohn Water Supply Corporation, Lohn Co-op Gin and the Taylor County Farm Bureau. He was a member and also served as an Elder and President of the Congregation at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Brady. He enjoyed helping his kids with their animals at the stock shows, going on cruises with Laura and spending time with his grandsons.

Funeral services for Ronny Helberg will be held 2:00pm Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Brady with Reverend Ben Francisco and Reverend Lynn Lubke officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Lohn Cemetery in Lohn, Texas. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Pallbearers will be Teddy Burnham, Larry Billingsley, Carlton Lundgren, Ricky Lusty, John Landers and Santana Flores. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Rhodes, Chris Rhodes, Dylan Rhodes, Dillon Deans, Cooper Deans, C.W. Caldwell and Danny Pawlik.

Ronny is survived by his loving wife of over 39 years, Laura Beth (Gage) Helberg, of Lohn, Texas; son Lance Helberg of Lohn, Texas; daughter Haylie Deans and husband Randy of Voca, Texas; brother Lawrence Helberg and wife Paulette of Austin, Texas; sister Arlene Hamlin of Wimberley, Texas; grandchildren Dillon Deans and Cooper Deans and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law David Hamlin. Memorial contributions in memory of Ronny Helberg may be made to the Hope from the Heart, P. O.
