Ronald Edward Slocum

Graveside services for Ronald Edward Slocum, 71, of Zephyr will be February 9, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Democrat Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. February 8 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Mr. Slocum passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019.

Ron was born February 7, 1947 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Rufus Edward and Agnes (Johnson) Slocum. He graduated NMSU and worked 34 years as a civil engineer for the federal government before he retired. After retirement, Ron began free-lance engineering and took great pride in the participation of his grandkids in his work. Ron stayed active outdoors hunting for arrowheads and working on the family farm. He was also a “diehard” Cowboys fan who refused to watch anybody but the Cowboys. Ron was a devout Christian that passed on his devotion to all his kids and grandkids. He was an active member of the Church of Christ.

Those left behind to cherish his memories include his wife of 48 years, Debra Ann Slocum, son and daughter-in-law Marc and Debbie Slocum, daughter Rebecca Svoboda, daughter Sara Slocum, son Kyle Slocum; grandchildren Emily and husband Jason Gonzales, Zac Slocum, Leah Svoboda, Larissa Svoboda, Colton Svoboda, Joseph Guerra, Ryan Guerra, Haley Guerra, Kristin Slocum, Matthew Slocum, Cody Slocum, Wesley Slocum; along with two great grandchildren Aleya and Madden Gonzales.
