Melvin Benjamin “Benny” Snow

Melvin Benjamin “Benny” Snow, 84, of Moriarty, New Mexico passed away February 2, 2019, in Zephyr, Texas.

Benny was born on December 18, 1934, in Dalhart, Texas, to Frank and Zora (Mead) Snow. He and his older brother and three sisters grew up in Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico. He met Verna Arlene Mason in Albuquerque and they were married in 1951. Together they raised three sons, Ronald, Michael, and Thomas and one daughter, Christell.

Benny was an accomplished musician and band leader, playing the steel guitar in the Albuquerque area for many years. Fellow musicians knew him by his nickname, “Curly”. He also worked for the Navajo Freight Lines in Albuquerque and Ideal Cement Plant in Tijeras Canyon. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; a son, Michael; his parents, Frank and Zora; brother, Darwin Moore; 3 sisters, Marjorie Gibson, Helen Vance, and Doris Neiderman; and son-in-law, Thomas Higgs.

Benny is survived by his 2 sons, Ronald Snow and wife Fern of Zephyr, TX, and Thomas Snow of Moriarty, NM; his daughter, Christell Higgs of Moriarty, NM; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Benny will be 10 a.m., February 12 at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM with Carl Hamilton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood, TX.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to one’s charity of choice.
