Man Jailed on Numerous Acts of Violence

According to news from the Early Police Department, on Tuesday, January 14th, Early Police Officer Tasha Tobias was flagged down by a female on the side of the road.  The female appeared upset and in fear of something.

Upon making contact with the female it was learned that she had been held against her will by a former boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend, Nicolas Martinez, was arrested on December 19th for Continuous Assault family violence. Martinez was arrested again for violation of protective order when he showed up at the victim’s home again on January 10.

On January 13th the victim arrived home from work and found Martinez in her residence. The victim was unable to get away and was kept against her will overnight. During that time the victim was assaulted several times and had a knife held to her and was strangled on several occasions during the night. According to Early Police, the victim clearly showed signs of being strangled along with other bruising.

On Tuesday, January 14, the suspect Martinez took the victim and went to a fast food store.  On their way back to her apartment, Martinez pulled over for something and the victim jumped out of the car and ran for help flagging down the officer.

Martinez, 44, fled the scene and was located by Brownwood Police on 4th Street. Early PD Officers then went to that location and took Martinez into custody. Martinez was charged with Violation of Protective order, Continuous Violence against family, Assault family violence impeding breathing/circulation (strangulation), Retaliation, unlawful restraint.

According to Brown County jail records, as of Wednesday January 15, Martinez was in jail on bonds totaling $170,000.
