Lucian Nell Fox Bynum

Lucian Nell Fox Bynum passed from this life to the next on February 21st, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born in Ola, Kaufman County, Texas on March 2nd, 1926 to Lettie LaRoe Fox and Lucian Norwood Fox. She was the youngest of seven children. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Kaufman High School. She married Otto Bynum on February 22, 1953. They remained married for over 61 years until his death on June 14th, 2014. Otto and Lucian moved to the Central Texas area in 1953 where she lived for most of her life. She was a Christian, a student of God’s Word and a longtime member of the 2nd and Wallace Street Church of Christ where she taught both children and adult Bible classes. Lucian was a dedicated full time homemaker. Her tireless devotion to her family was evident in the many ways she took care of them. She grew a garden, canned fruits and vegetables, enjoyed yard work and baked often. She was an excellent cook, famous for her fried chicken and pecan pies. Many of her children’s friends regularly “just happened” to drop in for a meal or a snack. She was a gifted seamstress and sewed everything from formals to mini-skirts along with drum major uniforms to three piece suits. Lucian was always active in PTA, volunteered as a room mother and attended countless school functions in support of her children. She also helped at the family orchard during harvest time whether gathering pecans or using her baseball glove to catch pears tossed by Otto from the top of a tree. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, including every book by Louis L’Amour and listening to classical music. She liked a good western movie, Gunsmoke and playing Skip-Bo (at which she often cheated). Lucian loved her grandchildren and was always happy to attend any of their plays or programs or to help out if someone was sick. The last few years of her life were enriched by four great-grandchildren. To both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was Granny. She enjoyed reading her Bible and read it daily until the very end of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and her husband.
