James W. Irwin Sr.

James W. Irwin, Sr., age 74, of Coleman, died Thursday, January 17, 2019, in Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

James W. Irwin, Sr., was born March 22, 1944 in Abilene, Texas, a son of James Russell Irwin and Ella Mae Leverett Irwin. He grew up in Abilene and Wichita Falls where he also attended school. In 1962 he moved to Coleman and worked in the oilfield, moving to Midland-Odessa area where he worked for Bandera Drilling Company as a driller for several years. He also worked for five years for the Corp of Engineers at Hords Creek Lake. He was a Cub Scout Leader and T-Ball Coach. In 1986 he became disabled following a motorcycle accident. He was Baptist and an avid NASCAR fan.

He is survived by three sons, Randy Irwin of Coleman, Wes Irwin and wife April of Brownwood, Scotty Kitchens and wife Autumn of Coleman; seven granddaughters, four grandsons, three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonja Gay Irwin; his parents; two sisters, Helen Dorothy Wright and Bonnie Norway; and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be January 23 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
