The following is the news release from Early Police Department, Chief David Mercer, concerning a drive-by shooting on Thursday night.

On May 23, 2019 shortly before midnight Early Police Department received a call of a drive-by shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Salt Creek drive. The caller reported that a blue Ford Escort had driven by his house and fired 5-6 shots at his home. Several rounds struck the home, narrowly missing the caller’s wife and 2 children. The Early PD along with Brown County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area in search for the vehicle.

After searching the area a few minutes, an Early PD officer located a vehicle matching the description in the 2000 block of Early Blvd that was eastbound into Early. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle which refused to stop when officer activated emergency lights and sirens. A slow speed pursuit began through Early at speeds ranging around 50 miles per hour. The vehicle made several evasive moves and drove on wrong side of the road. The vehicle went down CC Woodson and accelerated its speed to 90 miles per hour. Brownwood PD joined the pursuit on CC Woodson attempting to assist in stopping the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then rounded a corner on CC Woodson at Baker and slammed on its brakes causing an Early PD unit to strike the vehicle from behind causing minor damage to the vehicle and patrol car. The driver and passenger were taken into custody for investigation. No gun was found in the car after the pursuit.

The driver, Andrew Delossantos, (pictured) was taken into custody for outstanding warrants and charges of evading arrest, reckless driving and other misdemeanor traffic charges. The passenger was released at the time pending further investigation.

The crime scene investigation resulted in 3 bullet holes in the residence. One in the bedroom where the female and 2 children were, one went through a bedroom that was unoccupied and another struck a porch rail. Several witnesses in area reported hearing 5-6 shots. A gun was located on the side of the road in the 1000 block of Early Blvd that is consistent with the caliber of rounds found in the house. The gun will be sent to the lab along with other evidence.

It was later learned that the suspect, Delossantos, and the victim were involved in an argument over a pool game bet at a bar in Brownwood earlier in the night.
More charges are expected to be filed and other arrest are expected in the future when lab results return.
