DPS has released information regarding a Monday afternoon vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Brownwood man. At around 12:30 p.m., one mile east of Santa Anna in Coleman County, a 2015 Volvo truck-tractor, being driven by 44- year-old Kadar Yasir Ali of California, jackknifed on US 67, where it jackknifed on the wet road, crossed the center stripe and crashed into two other vehicles.

Bill Bennett, 86, of Brownwood, was driving a 1998 Lincoln Town Car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bennet was wearing a seat belt. Bennett’s wife Barbara, 84, of Brownwood, was transported to Brownwood with incapacitating injuries.

The third vehicle was a 2017 Ford Fusion, driven by Michael Anthony Mugica, 56, of Austin. Mugica was transported to Coleman with stable/incapacitating injuries. Mugica’s passenger, 55-year-old Joseph Stanley Sclafani, 55, was also transported to Coleman with stable injuries. Occupants of all vehicles were wearing seat belts. DPS said the crash is still under investigation.
