Dale D. Derrick

Dale D. Derrick, age 96, of Mullin passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, at home.

Graveside Services with Military Honors for Dale will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Oakview Cemetery in Mullin with Bro. Dearl Hardy officiating. No visitation will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Dale was born to Henry and Stella Mae (Harris) Derrick on March 27, 1922, in Warren, New Mexico. He grew up in Tatum, New Mexico. After high school, Dale joined the United States Army; he served for 4 years. Dale married the love of his life, Eva, on March 2, 1946. They were married for 51 years before her passing in November of 1997. He was loyal to Eva even after her passing.

Dale was a member of the American Legion in Priddy, and proudly attended monthly meetings until his health declined. He loved the outdoors and hunting. He also enjoyed cutting wood, in fact he was cutting wood up until he was 94 years old. Dale was a family man. He spoiled his great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids, he always had gum and a bowl of candy ready for them.

Dale is survived by 3 grandsons, Bob Porter and wife Kim of Whitney, Dale Porter and wife Jeannie of Mullin, and Jeremy Derrick of Mullin; 7 great-grandchildren: Amber Rice, and husband Rusty of Brookesmith, Cody Porter and wife Grace of Mullin, J.J. Porter of Mullin, Alex Porter of Mullin, Sabree Minard and husband Robby of Mullin, Hailey Garza and husband Damian of Zephyr, and Darcey Derrick of Mullin; and 6 great-great-grandchildren: Aaron, Raylee, Kelby, Kelton, Elvin, and Skylee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Derrick; son, Charles Derrick and his wife, Regina Derrick; daughter, Sandy Porter and her husband, Donald Porter; daughter, Gail Miller and her husband Rick Miller; and parents, Henry and Stella Derrick.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Mills County Buyers Club for Mullin Show Projects (P.O. Box 309 Goldthwaite, TX 76844).
