Commissioners Leave Burn Ban in Place in Brown County

Brown County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, September 16.  All Commissioners were in attendance.  County Judge, Dr. Paul Lilly, presided over the meeting.  Also present were officials from the county clerk, auditor and attorney offices.

During the 1st Public Hearing on the 2019-2020 Proposed Tax Rate, no one spoke.

During the 1st Public Hearing on the 2010-2020 Proposed Budget, Commissioners received comments from Michelle Wells, Executive Director, for CASA in the Heart of Texas.  She requested an additional $5,000 in funding for the organization.  The county already supports CASA along with three other non-profits who aid children.  Commissioners will take the request under consideration.  No one else appeared for the public hearing.  Commissioners are scheduled to adopt the budget in a meeting this Friday.  Adoption of the budget wasn’t on the agenda for Monday.

In Citizen Comments – Commissioners heard from Jay Hardaway with the West Central Texas Council of Governments who told Commissioners he was working with the County Emergency Manager on a Hazard Mitigation Plan which Commissioners can expect to see in the near future.

In other business:

  • The Burn Ban remains in place since conditions remain very dry
  • Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve contracts and agreements for hold-over detention services of juvenile offenders between Brown and McCulloch counties
  • Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve to continue to receive a share of the bingo prize fees after January 1, 2020, per House Bill 914.
