Brownwood Man Arrested After Wednesday Incident at Community Center

On Wednesday, January 22, at approximately 12:30 pm, officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to the Bennie Houston Community Center (505 Cordell) regarding a report of terroristic threat.  The caller was reporting that 34-year-old Jonathan Nickerson of Brownwood was on his way to the Center; threatening subjects with a gun.

According to the Brownwood Police Department statement on the incident:

“When officers arrived, Nickerson was on scene arguing with several citizens.  The argument was intense and required officers to physically separate several groups. Nickerson was interviewed and admitted to having a pistol in his possession.  The pistol was located inside his parked vehicle at the Center. When officers retrieved the pistol, they also retrieved a small baggy of marijuana that was in plain sight.

Several witnesses were interviewed.  These witnessed identified Nickerson as the instigator.  Nickerson was at the Center and approached a female in an angry response to a Facebook post.  Witnesses accused Nickerson of pointing a pistol at a female by placing that pistol to her head.  Nickerson acted in an angry and aggressive manner and threatened to kill that female,” according to the police statement.

According to the police report, Nickerson was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Possession of Marijuana.  He was being held in the Brown County Jail as of Thursday morning on bonds totaling $23,000.

Those charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
