Memorial Day Programs Planned in Brownwood and Early

Two Memorial Day observances are planned in Early and Brownwood.

V.F.W. Post 3278 and Auxiliary will observe Memorial Day at 9:30 am Monday, May 27, at Eastlawn Cemetery.

The Brownwood Memorial Day observance will be at 11:00 am Monday, May 27, at Central Texas Veteran’s Memorial.  Retired Navy Commander, Jim Looby, will give the address.  Retired Air Force General Dan Locker will serve as Master of Ceremonies.  Two plaques will also be dedicated during the ceremony.

Brownwood Woman Arrested Friday on Drug Charges

On Friday, May 24, 2019, the Brownwood Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics search/arrest warrant at a north Brownwood residence after an extended investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine.

According to a news release from Brownwood Assistant Police Chief, James Fuller, during the execution of the search warrant, over 23 grams of suspected methamphetamine was recovered from the residence.  Along with the suspected controlled substance, officials also recovered materials that were consistent with the distribution of illegal drugs.  Quantities of marijuana, alprazolam, and tramadol/acetamninophen were also recovered during the investigation.

Drive-By Shooting in Early Over Pool Game Bet at Bar

The following is the news release from Early Police Department, Chief David Mercer, concerning a drive-by shooting on Thursday night.

On May 23, 2019 shortly before midnight Early Police Department received a call of a drive-by shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Salt Creek drive. BMS National Junior Honor Society Students Visit Texas House and Senate in Austin

On Wednesday, May 22, fifty-one Brownwood Middle School National Junior Honor Society students traveled to Austin for their end-of-year trip. The students met Texas State Senator Dawn Buckingham and Texas Representative Mike Lang and had their picture taken with them.

Students toured both the Capitol building and the historic Governor’s Mansion.  They watched as both the House and Senate were called to order and spent an hour between the two houses observing how the State of Texas government operates.

The Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club has completed the process of awarding their annual scholarships to deserving high school seniors from high schools in Brown County. Previously, they awarded Miss Kialie Faith Dodson, Bangs High School her scholarship.

The following offense and incident reports were obtained from the Brownwood Police Department.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, Brownwood Police Officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Southside Drive at a residence for a harassment report.  Information was gathered and a report has been generated.

On May 22, 2019, at approximately 2027 hours, a Brownwood Police Officer was dispatched to a south Brownwood residence in the 500 block of West Austin Avenue in reference to Criminal Mischief.  A complainant advised that her vehicle was damaged by her ex-boyfriend in Brownwood.  An active report was generated.
