Howard Payne Postpones May Commencement, Will Continue Online Instruction Remainder of Semester

Due to the continuing impact of COVID-19 on our nation, HPU administration made the following announcements on Monday.

To prioritize the health and safety of the student body and campus community, all classes will remain in an online instruction format for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester.

Additionally, HPU will postpone the May 2020 Commencement ceremony to a future date. Administrators are exploring various options related to rescheduling the ceremony and will make an announcement when details are finalized.

Today at 2:00 pm – Governor’s Press Conference in Austin

Governor Greg Abbott will hold a press conference regarding the state’s continued response to COVID-19 today (Tuesday, March 31st) at 2:00 PM at the State Capitol.

The Governor will be joined by Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner John Hellerstedt, MD, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath.   These press conferences are broadcast on a variety of TV stations and on several social media platforms.

Darryl Brent Walker, 55 of Brownwood

Darryl Brent Walker, age 55, of Brownwood went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

A Celebration of Life for Darryl will be announced at a later date once all the social distancing orders are lifted. His full obituary will be released at that time.

Online condolences for the family are encouraged at this time at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

HPU recognizes 252 students for academic success

Howard Payne University recognized 252 students for academic success during the fall 2019 semester. Students must earn a 4.0 grade point average to be named to the President’s List, a 3.65-3.99 grade point average to be named to the Dean’s List and a 3.5-3.64 grade point average to be named to the Honor Roll.

Dr. Joshua Martin Officially Hired as Bangs ISD Superintendent

At a special meeting held Friday, March 27, by the Bangs Independent School District Board of Trustees, Dr. Joshua Martin was officially hired as the next Superintendent of Bangs ISD.  Dr. Martin is replacing retiring Superintendent Tony Truelove.

Bangs ISD will host a ‘Meet and Greet’ at a later date in order to give the community an opportunity to welcome Dr. Martin and his family to Bangs.
