Billy M. Crowder, 84 of Winchell

Billy Morris Crowder of Winchell, Texas passed from this life on November 15th, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, love, and laughter.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, with a visitation on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and the funeral services at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2019. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Bill’s honor to the Winchell Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 714, Brookesmith, Texas, 76827.

Wanda Joyce Cottrell, 87 of Rising Star

Wanda Joyce Cottrell, of Rising Star, died peacefully on November 8, 2019 at
Hendrick Medical Ceneter in Abilene, TX at the age of 88.

At her request her body was donated to Parker University in Dallas, TX for
Medical Research Study. There will be a Memorial Service for her at a later

Brownwood High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Sammy Burnett fell ill over the weekend and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Emergency surgery was performed on Sunday, and Coach Burnett is doing well this morning.  No other information was available as of Monday morning.  Assistant Head Coach David Jones will take over the Lions football team until Coach Burnett returns.

Local Student Travels to Thailand to Work with Elephants

This summer, Sharlene Munoz, 21, of Brownwood, Texas, spent two weeks in Thailand helping animals and learning hands-on what it’s like to be a veterinarian. Traveling with study-abroad organization Loop Abroad, Sharlene was selected as part of a small team that volunteered giving care at a dog shelter and spent a week working directly with rescued elephants at an elephant sanctuary.

Brownwood Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for Wal-Mart’s Online Grocery Pickup Service

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, August 6th to celebrate the addition of Brownwood Wal-Mart’s Online Grocery pick up service.

This service allows anyone to complete their shopping needs online and pick up at the store without the need to leave your vehicle. Groceries are packed and loaded in the customer’s car.

This service is provided for free with no extra charges. There is a $30 minimum on an order to use online grocery pickup and they also accept EBT/SNAP as a payment option.

Brownwood Police Blotter

KOXE News –  The Brownwood Police Department included the following calls for service on the Offense and Incident Report issued on Monday, August 19.

On Tuesday, August 13, at approximately 1455 hours, an Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Market Place Blvd in reference to a theft. The Officer spoke with the involved parties. A report has been made.

On Friday, August 16, Officers responded to 829 W. Commerce in reference to items being stolen off the donation dock at Goodwill. After speaking with the reporting party, a report was generated.

Storage unit fire leaves boats charred

A storage facility behind Sportsman Center located near the intersection of Texas Highway 279 and FM 2125 caught on fire today around 10:15 am. The Brownwood Fire department responded and quickly had it under control but not before many storage units (& boats) burned. No injuries were reported.  The total damage and cause of the fire are not yet known.  Listen to our Monday morning newscast for all the details.
