Flood waters wreaking havoc in Texas, Louisiana

By Rick Phelps

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster in nearly 20 counties hit by severe rain and flooding. In a statement issued Monday, Abbott said the state is assisting with evacuations in three East Texas counties and stands ready to assist in swift water rescues. Heavy rains last week forced the evacuation of hundreds of people in East Texas, as floodwaters rose in several Gulf Coast states. His declaration include Erath and Hood counties.

With the issues caused by the rising waters, the Texas Department of Transportation and Louisiana state officials have now closed parts of I-10. The closure would affect I-10 near the state line and could be closed as early as Tuesday morning, according to TxDOT officials. If that becomes necessary, it will significantly impact east-west traffic in that area and beyond the region. To keep up with road closures, check out the TxDot Web site or find them on FB or Twitter.
