
The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions golf squads both secured team championships at the Bluebonnet Invitational Tuesday at the Brownwood Country Club.
The Lions recorded a championship 308 composite score, easily outdistancing runner-up Comanche which posted a 327. Caleb Modawell fired a round of 69, the best of the tournament, to pace the Lions followed by Cobe Walker with a 79, while Peyton Sharp and Will Stewardson both turned in rounds of 80.
Meanwhile, the Lady Lions posted a winning 371 composite score as Tristyn Garcia placed second overall with a round of 84, Londyn England was right behind her in third place with an 86, and River Jones carded a 94 to come in fourth place. Also comprising the team were Geyer Stewardson, who shot a career-best round of 107, and Avery Villegas chipped in a 117.
Competing as medalists for the Lady Lions were Jacie Camp, who also tallied a career-best score of 109, along with Aubrey Neel, who fired a 121, and Aubrey Hubbard, who finished with a 122.
The Early Longhorns were also on hand at the Bluebonnet Invitational with a pair of teams as the first, which finished with a 417 composite score, consisted of Weston Barton (94), Jack Tracy (102), Logan Tracy (109) and Jonathan Piri (112). The second Early team carded a 465 total and included Dayson Mace (96), Reese Belcher (119), Braylan Hill (125) and Cash Meadows (125).
The next action for the Lions and Lady Lions comes March 31 and April 1 at the 36-hole, two-day District 6-4A tournament in Abilene.
