The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Thursday morning:

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment on Good Shepherd Dr. regarding a report of an assault. The 911 caller reported a 17-year-old male was assaulted with a baseball bat.

When officers arrived, they located the victim and his sister  Statements from them indicated that the assault actually occurred at their residence in the 2000 block of Calvert St.

The victim explained that while at home (Calvert St) he began arguing with his parents about his tardiness in school. The arguing became heated and escalated further at the front door when the victim left the residence with his sister but then turned around and attempted to push open the door. At the front door, the victim and his sister were pushing the door open and the victim’s stepmother, 35-year-old Cecilia Jay Huerta, was pushing it closed to prevent their re-entry. Eventually, Huerta grabbed a metal baseball bat and began swinging it through the opening of the door and struck the victim several times over the head.

The suspect was later contacted by officers at their home on Calvert and confirmed the use of the baseball bat. Given the totality of the information, Huerta was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault w/a Deadly Weapon. She was transported to the Brown County Jail without further incident.
