
Jerry Dale Dodson Sr., 78, of May, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Visitation with family will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 3, 2025 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the service beginning at 2:00 PM and ending with Military Honors. Interment will be a private family service.
Jerry Dale Dodson, Sr. was born December 17, 1946, in Ada, OK. Soon after, his family moved to Tucumcari, NM where he attended school. At the age of 13, by the grace of God, he was brought to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. While in Tucumcari High School, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Newbury and on September 28th, 1965, they entered a God-centered and honoring marriage that lasted over 50 years. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 4 years. He served two tours during the Viet Nam War, one aboard the U.S.S. Hancock and one aboard the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard. While in the Navy he and Jean had 2 sons and one after he was honorably discharged. During those years, the Lord grew his faith and worked in his life, calling him into the ministry to be a pastor. For almost 40 years, Jerry pastored several churches including First Baptist Church of Dora, NM; First Baptist Church of Sudan, TX; First Baptist Church of Jal, NM; and finally, Grace Bible Baptist Church in Denham Springs, LA where he pastored for 23 years. In 2017 he retired and moved to May, TX where he lived until 2024, when he moved to Early, TX. He was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church of Rising Star, TX where he helped teach the adult Sunday School class. Jerry passed away on February 25, 2025, after a yearlong battle with colon cancer. He was preceded in death by his beloved bride, Jean, on January 21, 2016, after an extended battle with breast cancer.
Jerry is survived by his son Jerry Dale Dodson, Jr. and wife Amy Dodson of Cisco, TX; son Jeffrey Dean Dodson and wife Laura Dodson of Seguin, TX; and son Joseph Dane Dodson and wife Sarah Dodson of Early, TX; 14 grandchildren, Jaime, Jeramy & wife Katelyn, Joshua, Caleb, Alan, Jeremiah, Daniel, Mikayla, Joseph, Jadon, Emmie, Maya, Andrew, and Lila He is also survived by two great grandchildren Adalynn and Aspen.
In his final months, Jerry was so wonderfully cared for by the staff of Kinder Hearts Home Health and Hospice of Early, TX. Our family would like to extend to them our deepest, heartfelt appreciation.
