
James “Jim” Loyd Byrd, age 76 passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, surrounded by family in his home in Brownwood.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday February 20, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday February 21, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood. Interment will follow directly after the service at the San Saba City Cemetery.
Jim was born May 1, 1948, in San Saba, Texas to Emitt Loyd and Nan Byrd. He graduated from San Saba High School 1966, the later furthered his educated at the Southwest College and graduated in 1970. Jim was a teacher for 39 years, at Galveston, Comal, Early and Brownwood ISD. He spent 18 of those years at the State School in Brownwood, he retired in 2009. Jim loved to collect and play music; he was a DJ at numerous wedding receptions, proms as well as other events. He was an avid runner, competing in several marathons. One of his accomplishments was that he biked from Santa Anna, Texas to Corpus Christi, Texas in 4 and a half days with his friends Harold Dixon and Bill Boswell. Jim enjoyed competing with other friends in Bar-B-Que cookoffs for 11 years locally. He was a member of the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, he attended the men’s bible study. He enjoyed repairing bikes with one of his friends for some of the kids in the community through the Salvation Army. He also served as a proud Mason through the Masonic Lodge. Jim was also an avid Houston Texan and a Fightin’ Aggie Football fan.
Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Zana Byrd. His children; Lori Overton and husband Bob, Kristie Byrd and fiancé Jason, James Byrd and wife Jennifer, Paul Infinger and wife Bobbie Jo, Jennifer Lowe and husband Darrin. His 14 grandchildren; Zoey Overton, Zane Overton, Spencer Arden, Cruz Arden, Jace Valerio, Junny Valerio, Aiden Byrd, Phoenix Solis, Jensen Limer, Blaize Infinger and fiancé Heather, Quade Infinger, Landon Lowe, Parker Lowe and Rhett Lowe. His brother John Byrd and wife Jimma of San Saba.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emitt and Nan Byrd.
Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church building fund can be made.
