Bettie Anne Smith, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 88. She was born on September 13, 1936, in Coleman, Texas, to Paul Brown Smith and Mary Anita Forman Smith.   Anne was a radiant presence in the lives of those who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Anne’s roots were deeply embedded in the Gouldbusk community, where she excelled academically and socially. As a testament to her diligence and character, she proudly graduated as valedictorian from Mozelle High School in 1955, earning numerous accolades along the way, including Class Favorite, Miss Mozelle High, Football Sweetheart, Homecoming Queen, and the D.A.R. Good Citizen Award. Her skills extended beyond academics, as she also participated in sports including girls football, demonstrating a well-rounded spirit full of enthusiasm and vitality.
Throughout her career, Anne exemplified unwavering dedication and hard work. She devoted 25 years of her life to working for Dr. R.F. Kemper in Coleman and became the manager of the Christian Book Store in Coleman in 1984. Her commitment to her work and community left a notable impact that will be remembered by many.
Anne’s love for music was profound and lifelong. Starting her piano journey at the age of 14 and later mastering the organ at 24, she became an integral part of the Community Baptist Church in Coleman. Every Sunday, she made the 100-mile round trip from Abilene to play the organ, sharing her musical talents with the congregation for many years. Anne was also a dignified presence at numerous funeral services, where her melodies brought comfort to grieving families.
In addition to her professional and musical endeavors, Anne cherished her family and friendships deeply. She is survived by her devoted sister, Patricia Robinson of Abilene; her beloved nieces and nephews, Mike and Suzanne Robinson of Novice, Phillip and Misty Bruce of Abilene, Dustin Bruce of Abilene, Amber and Brent Gailey and children, Addie and Brigston of Abilene, Lacy and Trey Morris and daughter, Summer, of Abilene, Nelson and Karis Bruce and daughter, Presley, of Abilene, Cindy Robinson of Abilene, Monty and Brittany Robinson and children, Cheyenne and Wyatt of Hawley; and her special friend of over 60 years, Cleo Cude of Abilene. These family members and friends will forever carry her memory within their hearts.
Preceding Anne in death are her cherished parents, Paul and Anita Smith; her nephew, Mark Robinson; and her great-niece, Kylie Robinson. Their absence is felt deeply, but they remain part of the tapestry of her life’s story.
