Dorothy Mitchell, born on September 12, 1929, in the Cross Roads Community, in Coleman County, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, in Abilene, Texas. She was a beloved member of her community and devoted to her family.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, dedicating her life to her family. She met the love of her life, Willis Robert Mitchell, in Cross Roads, and they were united in marriage on March 1, 1961. Dorothy took immense pride in being a devoted wife, and mother to her daughter, Rosemary.
Growing up in Cross Roads, Dorothy attended Cross Roads School followed by Coleman High School. A steadfast believer, she was a cherished member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene and First Baptist Church in Coleman. Dorothy’s commitment to her faith was exemplified through her roles as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School instructor, enriching the lives of countless young people. Additionally, she served as a Girl Scout Leader, imparting valuable lessons of teamwork and friendship.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Henderson, and son-in-law James Henderson of Abilene. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Willis Robert Mitchell; parents, Clifford L. Seals and Rosalee Kelley Seals; and her sister, Geraldine Wilder, and brother-in-law, Roy Wilder.
The community is invited to pay their respects and celebrate Dorothy’s life during the visitation on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Stevens Funeral Home, located at 400 W Pecan St, Coleman, Texas. Following this, a graveside service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion, located at 1600 East 9th Street, Coleman, Texas. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
Dorothy Mitchell’s legacy of love, faith, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
