John “Orville” Shaw 98, passed away in Stephenville on January 21, 2025. Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2025 at Heartland Funeral Home in Comanche from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Heartland Funeral Home in Comanche. Orville was born in Goldthwaite to William Jackson Shaw and Rachel Josephine Shaw on May 25, 1926. He served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 on the USS Cullman. During his service he had the opportunity to witness the signing of the peace treaty at Tokyo Bay in 1945 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was very proud of his service and loved to tell stories about his time serving. He married Thelma Idotha “Dodie” Shaw on June 14, 1947 at Ogles Methodist Church in Lampasas. Together they raised their children Ronnie, David, and Tanna in Comanche where Orville worked as a barber and Dodie worked as a Water Clerk for the City of Comanche. He is survived by his sister Mary Reid of Georgetown, his son Ronnie Shaw and wife Glenda of Pflugerville, his son David Shaw of Comanche and his daughter Tanna Tidmore and husband Bill of Dublin. His grandchildren, Jennifer Myers, Brandy Shaw, Clayton Shaw and wife Allizza, Callie Hawthorne, Tasha Pack and husband Jeff, Michael Campbell, and Jeremy Shaw and wife Tara. He also has 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Dodie Shaw, his daughter Deborah Kay Shaw, his parents, William Jackson Shaw and Rachel Josephine Shaw, his brothers Melvin Shaw, O.V. Shaw, D’Albert Shaw, A.M. Shaw, Orin Shaw and Alex Shaw. His sisters, Norma Stanley, Callie Shaw and Ann Conradt.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Methodist Church in Comanche.
