At Monday’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, approval was given to the appointment of a new Constable for Precinct 1.  Robert Mullins was the Constable in Precinct 1, but chose not to run for re-election last year.  No one else filed to run for that position, so the job became vacant as of January 1, 2025.  The Commissioners appointed Dan R. Griffith to fill this position.  Griffith is a native of Haskell, Texas, and has over thirty years of law enforcement experience, most of that with the Pflugerville Police Department.  He also has experience with the Stamford Police Department and the Sheriff’s Departments in Jones and Crockett Counties.  Griffith holds a Master Peace Officer License, along with many other law enforcement licenses and certifications.  He currently works as a Guardian at the Brownwood Middle School.  Griffith’s appointment is for two years, and the position will be placed on the ballot in the 2026 elections.

In other business:

*** Commissioners approved an agreement with Astound Broadband for internet service at the Precinct 1 barn.  Astound will install the internet service for free, and thereafter the monthly charge will be $99.95.

*** Commissioners approved a list of computer hardware equipment to be recycled.  The items on the list — computers, keyboards, monitors, etc. — were compiled by the County’s IT consultant Goldsmith Solutions.  Hard drives and memory cards will be removed and the equipment will be sent to an authorized Dell Reconnect recycling facility in Abilene.  Also on the agenda was a proposal to securely destroy the hard drives and memory cards, but the Commissioners tabled the proposal in favor of looking for a less expensive method of destroying the hard drives and memory cards.

*** Commissioners agreed to leave the burn ban OFF for the present time.
