The Brownwood Police Department posted the following on social media Wednesday afternoon:
Today we had an opportunity to recognize a truly good man – a good Samaritan.
On December 6, 2024, Brownwood Police Officer Austin Carlisle was dispatched to the 3000 block of Hwy 377 South for a report of a man walking in and out of traffic on the highway. When located, the man began physically resisting and fighting with Officer Carlisle.
Texas National Guard Sergeant Martin Cardiel was driving back to Camp Bowie when he observed this altercation unfolding on the side of the road. Without concern for his own safety and unaware of the circumstances, he pulled to the curb and ran to Officer Carlisle’s aid. His immediate response helped bring the man under control and end a very volatile situation.
Today, Chief Kading met with Sgt. Cardiel and his father along with Command Sergeant Major Zapata and presented them with a Police Department challenge coin. Additionally, Brownwood Municipal Police Association President James Wells presented Sgt. Cardiel with the Association challenge coin.
Thank you so much for your service to this community and this nation.
