Varsity, JV Lions both win team championships at Dublin FCA cross country meet

DUBLIN – Both the Brownwood Lions varsity and junior varsity cross country squads captured team championships at the Dublin FCA Meet on Wednesday.

The varsity Lions finished with 21 points as a team, easily outdistancing host and runner-up Dublin (59).

Bennett Windham won the individual championship in a time of 16:44.46 while teammate Noah Lambert finished second in a time of 17:17.15, and Aidan Pena placed fifth in 18:16.6. Ross Strasner (6th, 18:26.84), Stephen Rodriguez (7th, 18:41.34), and Jayden Sanchez (12th, 19:15.09) rounded out the Lions’ effort.

The JV Lions also notched 21 points, placing ahead of host Dublin (57) and the rest of the field.

Alex Vaquera finished first overall for Brownwood in a time of 19:29.02 followed by EJ Stanfield (3rd, 20:16.44), Gio Diaz (4th, 20:31.69), Tru Pesina (7th, 20:48.92), Kayden Hernandez (9th, 21:23.62), Alejandro Gomez (11th, 21:27.72), Hayden Padgett (12th, 21:40.1), Valente Cardenas (14th, 22:42.62), Isaac Morales (16th, 23:17.75), Jose Rodriguez (19th, 23:38.62), and Jonathan Solano (22nd, 24:06.9),

The Lady Lions will be back in action this weekend at the State Preview meet in Round Rock.
