Barney Bill Westerman, 81

Barney Bill Westerman, age 81, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on September 14, 2024, at home. He was born on December 2, 1942, in Albuquerque, NM to Barney Benton “Digger” and Virgie Westerman and moved to Brownwood soon after where he lived most of his life.

Barney was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, Serving from 1960 – 1967 and a member of the Brownwood VFW post.

He was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball and shared the love of the game with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in many conversations and being at their sporting events.

He enjoyed a good game of poker with his siblings and found great joy in startling or scaring someone by jumping out from his hiding spot and making sudden loud noises or while driving suddenly slamming the brakes and yelling at the same time.
Barney’s greatest blessing was his family, he moved to Abilene with his daughter and helped take care of his youngest grandson Nate, he looked forward every day to getting Nate where he needed to go. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, papa, brother and uncle who always made us laugh.

Barney is preceded in death by his wife Peggy Pruett, son Barney “Bubba” Bill Westerman Jr., daughter Susan Carmack, two brothers Mike Westerman, and Joe Smith and four nephews.

Barney is survived by his daughter Kem (Carlos) Lechuga of Abilene, daughter Stacy (Mitch) Miller, of Brownwood, daughter Ashley Montemayor of Brownwood, son Colby (Michelle) Pruett of Brownwood, sister Mickie Warnell of Hewitt, sister Vira Hopkins of Azle, sister Linda Cagle of Thornton, Co., sister Patsy Cox of Georgetown, 13 grandchildren, 14 great – grandchildren, 7 nieces and 6 nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Heritage
Funeral Home Davis – Morris Chapel.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Home Davis – Morris Chapel with Bill Slaymaker, officiating. Burial will be at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.

Pallbearers will be Chris Ledesma, Anthony Diaz, Richie Ledesma, Nate Lechuga, Colby Pruett, and Thomas Westerman.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home Davis – Morris Chapel.
