Gregory Eugene Pitts died on July 1, 2024, after a year-long illness. He was born on July 29, 1951, in Brownwood Texas, where he lived until shortly before his death. He graduated from Brownwood High School where he excelled in auto mechanics. He worked as a mechanic for many years in the Brownwood area before an injury ended his career.
His friends knew him as a good man who loved the Lord and tried to live as close to Him as he could. He attended several churches in the area, served as an usher, and was ordained to the gospel ministry. He was friendly and he liked talking with people. He believed that life was too short to focus on those who mistreated him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Edward Pitts and Madolyn Velez.
He is survived by his sisters, Dr. Michele Johnson and husband, Dr. Terry Johnson, of Abilene, and Dr. Melinda Velez of Houston, Missouri. He also leaves behind two nephews, four great nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
He was buried privately. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:00 A. M., in the pavilion at the Richland Springs Cemetery under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home. Memorial of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of the Big Country or Meals on Wheels in Brownwood.
