Angelica “Angie” Aguirre was the first-born daughter of eight sisters and four brothers. Parents Hilario and Petra Aguirre were blessed with her birth on January 4, 1944, in Melvin, Texas. She was also a 1960 graduate of Brownwood High School and was a lifelong resident of Central Texas. Angie always stressed the importance of getting an education and influenced many lives as a loyal and proud teacher’s aide and bus driver. She transported and instructed countless precious children for 35 years as an employee of the Santa Anna Independent School District.

Angie’s heart for helping others drove her to continuously help those underserved, overlooked, and anyone in need. She collected children’s books, toys, clothing, furniture, and food year-round to be able to provide for others. She spent hours helping with the Santa Anna Library and devoted time helping at City Hall of Santa Anna, Texas. Angie also volunteered at Good Samaritan in Brownwood, Texas until she was physically unable to do so. She was a devoted volunteer with her church family at First Baptist Church in Brownwood. While living in Rockwood, she attended Rockwood Baptist Church. It is here that her pastor, Jeff Dean led her to the Lord in 2009. She was a dedicated servant to her Lord and Savior with her husband Thomas “Tommy” McClanahan, who she lovingly called, “Tom.”

Tom and Angie enjoyed trips together fulfilling her life-long desire to travel. She loved to attend dances with her husband and made friends everywhere she went. Angie had a love for Texas wildflowers and would never pass up an opportunity to have her photo taken in a field of bluebonnets. The dearest part of her life was her family. She loved weekend family gatherings, celebrating holidays together, attending her sons’ school activities, and worked tirelessly to keep everyone connected.

Angie leaves behind a large immediate and extended family. She is survived by her husband Tom McClanahan, sisters Anna Jones, Mary Ester Aguirre, Alejandra Laing, Alesia A. Jones, Aline Hollingsworth, Alva Farmer, Amanda Eaton, brothers Agoberto “Donnell” Aguirre and  Amadello Aguirre, sons Alonzo Hernandez and Phillip Hernandez, grandchildren Kourtnie Hall, Krysta Alexander, Katy McClure, Alex, Kylee, Kayli, Alijah, Abby, and Aziah Hernandez, Korynne and Remington Hernandez, great grandchildren Brailee and Jace Hall, Emmaline, Joshua, and Elsie Alexander, and Elizabeth and Edith McClure.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilario and Petra Aguirre, brothers Alonzo Wayne, and Arnulfo “Ray,” Aguirre, husband, and father of her three sons, Margarito Hernandez, eldest son, Ricardo “Ricky” and his wife Victoria “Vicky” Hernandez, their unnamed Baby Hernandez, and granddaughters Ashley and Samantha Hernandez.

We celebrate Angie’s life and will remember her as an obedient daughter, a wonderful, caring mother, devoted and loyal wife, motherly sister, supportive friend, and an eternal child of God.
