Lions Fire 299, In Third Place Halfway Through Regional Golf Tournament

LUBBOCK – Seeking a second consecutive trip to the UIL Class 4A Boys Golf State Tournament, the Brownwood Lions opened play at the two-day, 36-hole Region I-4A boys golf tournament Monday at Shadow Hills Golf Course with a 299 team score.

The Lions, who finished third at the regional tournament last year to punch a state ticket, find themselves again in third place heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes. Bridgeport leads the way with a 284 team tally followed by Andrews Black with a 290.

Brownwood leads fourth-place Canyon Randall (307) by eight strokes and fifth-place Andrews Gold (308) by nine head into the final round, as the top three teams move on to state at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland April 29-30.

Hudson Reagan shot a 73 for Brownwood, which is tied for ninth place, followed by Sir Bubba Jones with a 74, Caleb Modawell and Cobe Walker both with 76s and Peyton Sharp with an 82.

Bridgeport’s Collin Moody turned in the low round of the day with a 67 followed by Andrews Black’s Jorge Molinar III with a 69.
