Wanda Lee Morgan, a beacon of strength and kindness, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the age of 98, at the Pecan Bayou Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. A graveside service will be held to honor her memory at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the serene Heflin Cemetery, where her spirit will find eternal rest. Bill Slaymaker, a close friend, will officiate the ceremony. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Blaylock Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements, ensuring every detail is handled with care.
Born to Alfred and Alice Anderson, Wanda spent her formative years in the idyllic surroundings of the Byrds Store area near Lake Brownwood before her family settled in Brownwood upon her father’s retirement from Phillips Petroleum. With a passion for beauty and style, Wanda pursued and obtained her Cosmetology License, later establishing her own Salon, which became a beloved community fixture for over four decades. Upon retiring from her thriving business, she devoted herself to supporting her beloved husband, Joe Bob Morgan, with whom she shared 72 years of unwavering love and partnership until his passing in February 2016. Their union was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. Together, they worked side by side at Morgan’s Gun Shop, a testament to their shared dedication and teamwork.
Wanda leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her son, Stephen Morgan of Brownwood, and grandchildren: Chris Ezra of May, Texas; Rhonda Ezra of Brownwood; Robert Morgan and his wife Sara of Palmdale, California; and Samantha Morgan Hillskotter and her husband Rodney of River Falls, Wisconsin. Her great-grandchildren, Tyler Edwards, James Hillskotter, Hadassah Hillskotter, and great-great-grandson, Easton Toby Brown. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary McQueen, and husband Vadas Dean of Odessa, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
In addition to her husband, Joe Bob Morgan, Wanda was preceded in death by her daughter, Bobbie Morgan Williams; son-in-law, Robert Williams; great-grandson, Toby Earp; brother-in-law, Kenneth Morgan, and his wife Vergie; sisters Liza Anderson of Byrds Store, and Nedra Cain of Brownwood; brother-in-law, Harold Cain of Brownwood; sister, Billie Chrane of Austin, Texas; and brother-in-law, Bill Chrane of Austin, Texas.
