Lady Lions soccer 1-1 on first day of Burnet tourney

BURNET – The Brownwood Lady Lions split their first two games at the Burnet soccer tournament Thursday, both of which were tied at the end of regulation and were forced into penalty kick shootouts.

The Lady Lions defeated host Burnet in the nightcap after a scoreless tie in regulation. Converting penalty kick goals in the shootout were Reagan Ratliff, Braycee Lee and Alma Bernal. Meanwhile, Noemi Ceniceros recorded three clutch saves to propel Brownwood to victory.

In Thursday’s tournament opener, the Lady Lions fell to Killeen Ellison in a shootout following a 2-2 tie in regulation. Bernal contributed both goals for Brownwood during regulation and one in the shootout, while Ratliff and Lee also scored in the shootout, which advanced to six shooters. Ceniceros chalked up two more saves in the shootout.

The Lady Lions (5-2) continue tournament action at 12:30 p.m. Friday against La Vernia, and their Saturday foe will be determined upon Friday tournament results.
