Mask wearing men attempted to remove an ATM machine from a Brownwood convenience store on Monday morning, only to tear up a stolen pickup truck in the process.

According to Brownwood Police, on Monday, October 16, 2023, at approximately 5:00am, officers were dispatched to the 711 Convenience Store on Coggin Avenue for a reported robbery in progress.  The clerk called 911 reporting that three males ran in the store wearing masks and were breaking windows by the ATM machine.  The clerk was able to lock herself in the back room.

When officers arrived, they cleared the building to ensure the scene was safe and to locate the store clerk who was unharmed.  Investigation revealed that the suspects backed a pickup truck onto the front sidewalk and broke windows out, adjacent to the ATM machine.  They then wrapped a tow chain around the machine and appeared to try to drag the machine away from the building.  A large area of debris, tire marks and vehicle parts were scattered on the sidewalk and parking lot, but the ATM machine was not dislodged from its foundation.

The suspect pickup truck was located approximately 4 blocks away, abandoned.  It appears this vehicle was stolen.

The investigation remains ongoing.
