Dr. Ronny Marriott Assumes Presidency of Baptist General Convention of Texas

Dr. Ronny W. Marriott, lead pastor at First Baptist Church in Burleson, TX, has assumed the presidency of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

He succeeds Dr. Julio Guarneri, who was recently named to serve as Executive Director of the BGCT as successor to retiring Director Dr. David Hardage.

Dr. Marriott, in Texas Baptist ministry for more than 35 years, previously served two terms as BGCT vice-president prior to his succession to the presidency.

A native of Mesquite, he is a graduate of North Mesquite High School, with a B.A. Degree from Howard Payne University and both the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Lead pastor at FBC in Burleson since 2016, he previously served as lead pastor at Shady Oaks Baptist Church, Hurst; Sunset Canyon Baptist Church, Dripping Springs; First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi and First Baptist Church, Temple. He will continue to serve in Burleson, where the church has experienced dynamic growth during his tenure. In the new volunteer post, he will chair meetings associated with leadership of the BGCT’s more than 5,000 churches.

He is married to the former Robin Sisk, and the couple has three grown children.

He has served several years on the BGCT Executive Board, as well as the Christian Life Commission, Theological Education Council and the Howard Payne University Board of Trustees.
