BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University football team blanked Lyon College 85-0 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Howard Payne’s 85 total points and 47 first quarter points were the most in the modern era for the Yellow Jacket football program.
HPU’s Tucker Bridwell was 29 of 33 passing for 376 yards and five touchdowns. His 29 of 33 passing broke the HPU record for passing percentage in a game previously held by Thomas Head with 86.3% (19 of 22) back in 2012 versus Wayland Baptist.
The Yellow Jackets defense shined again allowing just 94 yards of total offense (70 rushing, 24 passing). The HPU secondary picked off three Lyon passes – Korey Kelley, Elijah Dillard, and KD Bookman each recorded interceptions in the game for the Yellow Jackets.
The Howard Payne offense scored 47 points in the first quarter, four passing TDs and three rushing TDs. HPU finished the game a perfect 7 of 7 in red zone chances.
Jordan Carroll was the Jackets top receiver with five catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Gus Charles followed with seven catches for 73 yards and a TD.
Konlyn Anderson finished as the Jackets top rusher with 12 carries for 106 yards and one TD. Blessing Ngene had three carries for 55 yards and a TD. Javian Myles had four carries for 48 yards and two TDs, and Reece Rodgers added one TD.

Howard Payne is now 3-0 overall and Lyon College stands at 1-2 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will have a open date next week before traveling to Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas on Sept. 30th for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
