Claire Newman, 75, of Brownwood

Claire Newman, age 75 of Brownwood passed away Monday, September 11, 2023.

Her family will host a visitation 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday, September 14th at Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Funeral Services will be 10 am Friday, September 15th at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.

Claire was born on Thursday, September 2, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas to Fredrick and Mable Burke.  Claire married Jim Newman on July 29, 1967 and they began a life together that blessed them with 2 children.

For many years she was on a bowling league, and was quite good at it. She made beautiful ceramics and had lots of fun playing Bunco with her lady friends.  She was a girl scout leader and a youth leader at church.  She touched many lives with encouragement, support and inspiration.  Claire attended college earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology as an Ordained Minister, Counselor and Life Coach.  She traveled to perform weddings, funerals and worked with inmates.  She also went to hospitals and nursing homes to help in any way she could.  For many years she ran and operated a local food pantry and helped out the community in the soup kitchen.  Claire was a teacher for many years at the local Christian School at Trinity Chapel in Early, TX and was still in touch with some of her students.  She was very active with her church community until she was unable to attend.

Claire loved her family dearly especially her grandchildren and great grands.  She also dearly loved all of her nieces and nephews, brothers and sister-n-laws.

Claire is survived by her husband Jim Newman of Grosvenor, TX; son David Newman and wife Sherry of Shabonna, IL; daughter Sandi Welch and husband Dennis of Granbury, TX; brother Jack Burke of Crestview, FL; sister Mary Raguet of Randleman, NC; sister-n-laws, Susie Burke of Holt, FL, Sandra Newman of Port Neches, TX, Evelyn Newman of Grosvenor, TX and Nelda Heath of San Antonio, TX; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved; and last but not least her fur baby Daizzie (dog).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Mabel Burke; mother and father-n-law, Eva and Sam Newman; sister and brother-n-law Joy and Jim Binion; brother-n-laws, Charles Newman, Bob Newman and Sam Newman.
