Think “Spring” thunderstorms when thinking about the weather tonight (Monday) in Brown and neighboring counties.  All modes of severe weather are in play including damaging wind, large hail and localized flash flooding.  Tornadoes can’t be ruled out.  According to KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner, a cold front will move into our area tonight bringing the potential for severe weather and also much needed rain.

“It has been months since we have had to deal with severe weather, but be sure you have a way to receive weather warnings tonight, such as KOXE Radio.  I expect the storms to build between Abilene and Lubbock late this afternoon and then move in our direction with the cold front.  The most likely time for storms in Brown and surrounding counties looks to be between 9:00 pm and 3:00 am, but showers and storms may continue into your morning commute on Tuesday.  Areas most likely to experience severe storms initially will be Snyder, Sweetwater, Abilene and San Angelo.  Another scenario is the storms form into a line and get the “nasty” out of their system and bring us rain, lightning and gusty wind.  Just be prepared to be awakened by thunder during the night,” Turner said.

There will continue to be a daily high percentage chance for rain each day this week and into the weekend. High temperatures on Tuesday will remain in the 70’s most of the day.
