Sidney Melvin Reams, 80, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away July 1, 2023, at St. David’s Medical Center Round Rock.
Graveside services for Melvin will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Caradan Cemetery near Goldthwaite, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday evening, July 7. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Melvin was born on March 26, 1943, in Plainview, Texas, to Sidney Odeneal Reams and Mary Lou Anderson Reams. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1961. Melvin attended Lubbock Christian University, Texas Tech University, and received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, agricultural science, and business from West Texas A&M University. Melvin married Amey Bleeker on February 19, 1966.
Melvin was employed as a landman and department supervisor for Colorado Interstate Gas Company from 1969-1980. In 1980-1983 he was employed by Santa Fe Energy Interstate Gas Holdings as a landman. In 1983, he began working in the long-distance business. Melvin owned and was president of ValuLine and ValuTel Communications Services in Amarillo, Albuquerque, and several offices across Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
Melvin served as a deacon at Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo. He was active in Kiwanis International and served as president and held offices in the Texas Association of Independent Telephone Companies. He enjoyed hanging out and working on airplanes with his Commemorative Air Force friends. Melvin’s favorite hobbies were flying his plane, working on cars, and spending time with family, friends, and his dog Rosie.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Amey Bleeker Reams; daughters, Shelia Reams Keefer, and Stephanie Reams Wood and husband Alan; son, Sidney Marcus Reams; grandchildren, Morgan Keefer Williamson and husband Caleb, Garret Keefer and wife Lauren, Mackenzie Keefer Morton and husband Zachary, Seth Wood, Clay Wood, Ryan Wood, Bret Wood, and Reid Wood; brother, David Anderson Reams; sisters in law, Patricia Bleeker Martin and husband Max, and Kerry Bleeker; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Melvin’s grandson will serve as pallbearers.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Lynn Reams; sisters in law, Mildred Pauline Bleeker, Lida Bleeker, and Rheta Bleeker; and brothers in law, LeRoy Bleeker and Leo Bleeker.
