Peggy Janice Blackwell, 85, of Huntsville

Peggy Janice Blackwell, PhD, passed away June 25, 2023. She was born in Center City, Texas on June 13, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents Hollis and Hartal Blackwell. Peggy had been a resident of Creekside Retirement Community in Huntsville, TX for about 15 months due to serious health problems.

Among her many accomplishments she was Dean of the College of Education at the University of New Mexico for over 30 years. After her retirement there she accepted the Dean of Education position at Zayed University in Dubai where she remained for 8 years.

Returning to Texas she took on the task of remodeling her parent’s home and landscaping the yard. She also became a serious photography student and enjoyed traveling to workshops all over the US. She was a superb cook and loved to share her recipes.

She is survived by her brother Bill and his wife Mary, her niece Martha Barnett and husband Lance, her nephew Will and his wife Vivian, and 4 great nephews – Cooper, Levi, Nolan Barnett and Nestor Blackwell.

A family graveside service will be held Friday June 30 at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.
