Shirley Beth Boyd Dodds, age 85, of Early passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023, in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Monday, June 26, at Heartland Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at Heartland Funeral Home. Brother Rick Justice will officiate the service and burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Shirley was born February 17,1938, in Owens, Texas to Alonzo and Lorena Boyd. She graduated from May High School. She was married to the love of her life, Winifred Dodds at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Holder, Texas, on December 20, 1957. They were married almost 54 years. People would say they were inseparable. Shortly after marriage they welcomed three loving children Delbert, Leta and Veonna. She was a very busy wife and mother taking care of her children, as well as working at different positions at school as a school secretary, librarian and a teacher’s aide. One of her passions was playing the piano by ear. She could hear a song and play it. Sewing was another talent she had and loved making matching dresses for her daughters. She was a very good cook. The grandkids favorite meal was her biscuits and gravy from scratch. One of her favorite times was always watching or playing dominoes and card games around her kitchen table with her kids and grandkids. She was one of the best supporters. She loved fishing and taking trips with family and friends. Shirley was a member at Early First Baptist Church.
Shirley is survived by her son, Delbert and wife Jan of Brownwood; daughters, Leta Salazar and husband Tony of Brownwood and Veonna Doremus and husband Mark of Early; grandchildren, Tyler Dodds, Blake Dodds and Mandi Styles, Stephen Salazar and JC, Lauren Salazar and Carlton Brown, Netticia Rainey and Hank, Mitchell Doremus and Amary, Brandon Doremus and Hope; great-grandchildren, Brody and Brayden Salazar, Easton and Kameron Brown, Taylor and Ty Rainey, Kinsler and Hudson Doremus, Bryler and Becton Doremus. She is also survived by her sister, Glenda Boyd Phillips; brother-in-law’s, Bobby Dodds and wife Martha, Roy Dodds and wife Maedean, and sister-in-law Winnia Bee Pruitt.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Winifred Dodds; parents Alonzo and Lorena Boyd; brother Gainer Boyd; seven brother-in-laws and six sister-in-laws.
