Jerry Kenneth Cassle, age 88, of Cross Plains, Texas passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Ranger Care Center in Ranger, Texas.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, May 6, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Texas. Jerry’s wishes were to be cremated and his cremains to be buried next to his beloved wife, Ruby Cassle, at the Cross Plains Memorial Park.

Jerry was born on November 8, 1934 in Kress, Texas to the late John Clovis Cassle and Floye Simmons-Cassle. At a young age he and his family moved to Oklahoma, Jerry’s father was a Baptist Preacher. Jerry attended schools in Reed, Carter, Davidson and graduated from Fredrick High School in 1953 in Fredrick, Oklahoma. Jerry started working in retail while he was in high school. He worked for Norwood’s Shoe Department in Fredrick, Oklahoma. After Jerry graduated, he went to work for a shoe company managing the men’s shoe department at McClurkan, then moved to several towns though out Texas and Tennessee. Jerry married Myrna Kidd in June of 1953 in Fredrick, Oklahoma, they had 2 children together, Becky and Mike. After Jerry and Myrna’s divorce in 1964, he married Diane French in December of 1967 in Galveston, Texas, they had one child together, Amy, After Jerry and Diane’s divorce in 1972, he married Ruby McBride Stancil on April 30, 1976 in Surfside, Texas, who preceded him on May 17, 2007. In 1980 Jerry left the retail business and moved to Cross Plains, Texas and went to work for an oil company for 18 years, then left the oil company to work alongside Bob Harrell as his Funeral Assistant at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains for 18 years then decided to quit working at the age of 81. Jerry was appointed by Mayor, Ray Purvis to the board of the Economic Development Corp. served on the board for several years and several years as Vice President. Jerry served as Councilman for the city of Cross Plains for 24 ½ years. He served as Mayor of Cross Plains for 2 ½ years retiring in 2021 due to heath issues. Jerry was an active member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 14 years.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Ruby Cassle; parents, John and Floye Cassle; brothers, James and Jesse Cassle; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Becky Graves of Aledo, Texas; son, Mike Cassle of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Amy Carroll of Lampasas, Texas; stepchildren, Faith Stevens of Angleton, Texas; Suzan Brooks of Coleman, Texas; George Mathews of Cross Plains, Texas; Brenda Scayton of Abilene, Texas; Jessie Jones of Abilene, Texas; Renee Alexander of Cross Plains, Texas; 17 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
