Vondean Walters-Hutchins, age 80 of Cross Plains, Texas passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend stepped into the presence of the Lord. Vondean Walters-Hutchins, who loved to be called “Nannie” by her grands and great grands was born July 14, 1942 in Brownfield, Texas.
Vondean centered her life on serving others, which began in her home. She doted on her immediate family and many extended family and friends. If you were sick, hurting or suffering in any way, you got a meal, which often included her “always requested coconut cake”. She took her service to her job as well. She worked alongside her husband for over 40 years at their business, Cross Plains Frozen Food Locker. She treated their many customers like they were the only ones. Often leaving family celebrations to “run” down to the locker to let a deer in or ship out someone’s beef. Perhaps her greatest area of service was to her church family. She shared her “God-given” talent playing the church organ every Sunday, just to glorify God. She helped prepare and serve hundreds of Thanksgiving and Funeral meals. She could take a box of cornbread mix, a little stale bread, some seasoning and turn it into a pan of dressing that would feed multitudes. many years ago, she began being known as the “Funeral Meal Coordinator, Boss”. She along with many other ladies have spent countless hours planning, preparing, and serving meals to families as they were grieving the loss of a loved one. It was her pleasure and passion.
Vondean you will be missed. May we laugh through our tears and may memories of you never fade though the years.
