BROWNWOOD BASEBALL

The Brownwood Lions relinquished their share of the District 6-4A baseball lead as the Stephenville Yellow Jackets completed a three-game league sweep at Morris Southall Field Friday night, 8-4.

The Lions (18-8-1, 7-3), who have defeated every other team in district but Stephenville (13-12-1, 6-2), now trail the Yellow Jackets and first-place Glen Rose (15-7, 7-1) with two games remaining – those falling April 25 at home and April 28 on the road against the front-running Tigers.

EARLY BASEBALL

The Early Longhorns registered a second straight District 8-3A victory and remained in second place with in the league standings with a 6-2 home triumph over Millsap Friday night.

The Longhorns (13-6, 8-2) raced out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, added a single run in the fifth in their final three in the sixth before Millsap scored twice in the top of the seventh.

BANGS BASEBALL

The Hamilton Bulldogs completed a District 7-2A baseball sweep of the Bangs Dragons with a 9-0 victory Friday night.  Bangs (16-6-2, 6-2) was limited to just two hits – singles by Skylar Minshew and Hunter Newton.

BROWNWOOD SOFTBALL

Presented with the opportunity to lock up the second seed from District 6-4A for the playoffs in their home and regular season finale, the Brownwood Lady Lions’ plans were instead foiled by the Stephenville Honeybees, 5-3, Friday.

The district bye falls for Brownwood next week, which means the Lady Lions (10-12-1, 4-4) have completed their regular season and are in a virtual tie with Stephenville (15-11, 3-3), which dropped the first game to Brownwood this week, 4-2. The Honeybees and Glen Rose (12-18, 2-4) square off next week, which will determine the second, third and fourth playoff seeds from 6-4A behind league leader Graham.

EARLY SOFTBALL

The Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 3A No. 15 Early Lady Horns reclaimed the top spot the District 8-3A standings with a comfortable 15-0 home victory over Millsap Friday.

The win by Early (24-4-2, 11-1), coupled with Peaster’s 4-2 victory over Brock Friday, gives the Lady Horns sole possession of first place in the 8-3A standings with two games remaining.

BANGS SOFTBALL

The Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 2A No. 20 Bangs Lady Dragons secured the District 6-2A softball championship and the top seed from the league for the playoffs with their 6-2 road victory over Coleman Friday.

Bangs (21-4, 12-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, which grew to 4-0 in the top of the fifth before Coleman (14-10, 9-3) answered with a pair of runs. The Lady Dragons tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh for the four-run margin.
