Luciano Sanchez Delgado, age 88, of Brownwood, Texas, went home to be with our Lord and Savior while surrounded by his family on April 13, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at Haven of Hope church on Tuesday, April 18 at 2:00 PM with interment with Military Honors to follow at Salem Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled at Haven of Hope church an hour prior to the funeral service.
Luciano was born to Daniel and Tomasa Delgado on December 13, 1934 in El Paso, Texas. He enjoyed adventures with his cousin as a child and was lovingly known to close friends and family as Chano. He married the love of his life, Dolores Ramirez Delgado, on July 8, 1963 in Las Cruzes, New Mexico. Together, they had three children – Joseph, Bernadette, and Divina. He was a proud husband, dad, and grandpa. He often made it known to his family that he loved each of them abundantly. He also encouraged his loved ones to always live for Jesus and left behind an amazing legacy for his family to follow. Everyone who knew him would describe him as a humble, patient, and kind man. Luciano considered it a great honor to serve in the United States Air Force for 20 years and eight months. He obtained rank of Staff Sergeant during his military career. He worked in military construction, in the woodshop, and on the bomb assembly line. He also enjoyed sharing stories about his overseas military duty in Guam (1963-1964), Korea (1965), Vietnam (1966), and Thailand (1967). After retiring, he and his family relocated to Bangs, Texas where he eventually became a custodian at Bangs ISD for nine years. He took special care of the school, and staff members complimented his dedicated work ethic even years after he completely retired. His greatest joy was giving his life to Jesus Christ in 1973. He made it his life’s mission to be the hands and feet of the Lord. He, along with his wife, spread the Gospel to many people over the years including missionary work in Mexico. He ministered in numerous places and started a church in his home where people gathered to praise the Lord. He was strong and rooted in his faith, and he lived each day centered on Jesus. Even at the age of 87 years old, he was excited to baptize people in Lake Brownwood shortly before the Lord called him home. He was truly a good and faithful servant of God.
Luciano is survived by his wife of 59 years Dolores Delgado, daughter Bernadette Wilburn and husband Alvie James, daughter Divina Delgado, daughter Celia Delgado, granddaughter Amanda Long and husband Charles, grandson Robert Daniel Zamperio and significant other Brittany, grandson Mark Wilburn and wife Tia, grandson Joseph Delgado, granddaughter Marisol Sandoval and husband Noe, and grandson Benjamin Wilburn. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Jasiah Camarillo, Asher Allen, Nolan Sandoval, Chloe Zamperio, Walker Wilburn, Avery Sandoval, Luciano Ash Zamperio, Nathaniel Long, and Blakely Sandoval.
Luciano was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Tomasa, son Joseph, and sister Carmen.
