O. D. “Dee” Lewis Followwell, age 93 of Brownwood, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023.

Family will host a visitation on Thursday, March 16th from 6 to 8 pm at Heartland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 pm at Brownwood Evangelism Center with interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park, in Early, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

O. D. Followwell was born December 10, 1929 in Burkett, Texas. He attended school in Burkett and Cross Plains, then later in life, attended Ranger College. O. D. left school in the 8th grade to go to work, so he could help his family. He went to work at Coca Cola at age 15, and retired from Superior Cable at age 62.    Dee married Wanda Pinkston on December 24, 1947 in Brownwood and they began a life together that blessed them with 3 children.  Dee loved spending time at his lake place with his family. Also, he loved playing church softball and coaching summer league baseball.  His bragging rights were, one of his little league players went on to play Major League Baseball.

Dee served 20 years in the Army National Guard and was awarded a Quilt of Valor in November 2022 for his service.  He was a Charter Member of Brownwood Evangelism Center.  Dee was the happiest when he was around his family, grandkids and church family.  He loved serving his church!

Dee is survived by his daughter Sherita Conkle and husband Richard of Comanche, OK; son Robert Followwell and wife Mandy of Brownwood, TX; his sister Mozelle Walton of Brownwood, TX; sister-in-law Betty Hall of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren, Kim Welch and husband Rahn of Stephenville, TX, James Chism and wife Keri of Lampasas, TX, Sarah Miller and husband RJ of Lampasas, TX, Matt Followwell and wife Aimee of Moore, OK, Marc Followwell and wife Chelsea of Brownwood, TX, Nick Followwell and wife Lacie of Salado, TX; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Followwell; daughter Juanita Graham; granddaughter Kristi Graham; his parents Jim and Lucy Followwell; brothers, Alvie, LB and Everett Followwell; sister Nina Hall.

The family would like to thank Brownwood Nursing and Rehab for their love and care given to O. D. while he was there.
