Fire Heavily Damages Large Building in Brownwood

A structure fire at 3:09 am Sunday caused $100,000 in damage at Carnegie and Wilson Street. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire that was starting to extend to surrounding structures. Firefighters made a defensive attack using the city’s ladder truck. Forward progress was stopped preventing any major damage to the surrounding buildings. The fire building sustained heavy damage, been deemed uninhabitable and had been referred to the City of Brownwood Code Enforcement Department for follow up. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting Brownwood Fire Department was the Early Fire Department, Lifeguard EMS, Oncor, Atmos, Brownwood Police and County Fire Marshal. Fire crews spent 5 hours 28 minutes on site.
