A wood burning stove was determined to be the cause of a fire Wednesday morning at Crysler’s Collision Center on West Commerce.  The fire did over one million dollars worth of damage.

The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Wednesday afternoon regarding the Wednesday morning fire located at 831 West Commerce:

At 9:11 a.m., Engine 9, Engine 93, Engine 92, Chief 9, Chief 93, and Chief 92 responded to a report of a structure fire coming from 831 W. Commerce-Crysler’s Collision. Arriving crews found heavy smoke conditions inside the structure with fire on the north side of the structure. E93 was the first arriving engine and pulled a 2 1/2″ hose line to begin fire attack. E9 went to the rear of the structure to assist with fire operations. Early FD Engine 88 and Chief 8 assisted in fireground operations. Fire was contained. Utilities were cut including electric, gas, and water. Crews extinguished all hot spots during overhaul. No injuries to Fire Department personnel or civilians, no damage to equipment. The family dog was inside the building during the fire and was rescued with no injuries. The owner also had 9 customer vehicles and 1 personal vehicle inside the shop at the time of the fire. The structure was deemed unsafe due to potential roof collapse. All units cleared the scene.

It took 23 minutes to contain the fire and units were on scene 2 hours and 7 minutes.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a wood burning stove and the fire was unintentional in nature. Damages are estimated at $1,050,000.
