January is School Board Recognition Month and Brownwood ISD (BISD) is celebrating its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students.
The theme of this year’s School Board Recognition Month is Forward, Together, which highlights the collaboration among school leadership, teachers, and parents on behalf of students.
“The Brownwood community has done a fantastic job electing school board members to represent them and guide our school district,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young. “The Board sets the goals and policies of the district, aligns the budget with those goals, and holds me accountable for managing the district daily. I appreciate their selfless attitude and the time away from their family and jobs they give up to serve without compensation. Their guidance and support are critical to the successes we have as a district.” BISD Board members were recently recognized at the January 2023 Board of Trustees meeting where each were presented with a certificate along with a combination of staff and student-created gifts showing appreciation from each BISD school.
Dan Troxell, executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards, applauded the efforts of trustees in providing leadership and good governance so that school districts can focus on educating the 5.4 million public schoolchildren in their care.
“Texas school boards are critical to the success of students and the future of Texas,” Troxell said. “Boards lead their districts in the right direction, providing oversight, setting goals, overseeing the budget, and selecting and evaluating the superintendent. These volunteers serve for the betterment of their local schools and communities.”
Board members serving Brownwood ISD include Board President Michael Cloy, Vice President Roderick B. Jones, Sr., Secretary Diane Thompson, Eric Evans, Codie Smith, Amary Doremus, and Justin Posey.
