Kay “Kayelene” Sliger Durden, age 67, of Early passed away peacefully to be in the loving care of her Lord on January 13, 2023, in Abilene.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Cemetery in Comanche County under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. Pastor Keegan Hall of Indian Gap Baptist Church will be officiating.
Kay was born on September 25, 1954, in Comanche, Texas to Aaron Thomas Sliger and Thelma Christine (Fox) Sliger. She married the love of her life, Jim Durden, and was devoted to her family and home. She walked in faith and prayed fiercely over her family. She was selfless, wise, sweet, funny and strong. For many years she worked as a Nurse’s Aide. She loved decorating and caring for her home, antiques, fishing and spending time with family. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She passes on a wonderful legacy of how to put God first and how to treat others.
Kay is survived by her husband of 53 years Jim Durden of Early; daughter, Tammy Lowrey and husband Mike of Brownwood, and son Kenneth Durden and wife Melissa of Early; grandchildren: Wade Lowrey and wife Holly of Brownwood, Stephen Durden and wife Bailey of Bangs, Matthew Lowrey and fiancé Miranda of Brownwood, Cassie Durden of College Station, Catherine Durden Sparks and husband Tyler of Oceanside, CA, Heaven Durden of Early, Welden Durden of Early, William Durden of Early, and Faith Durden of Early; one great-grandchild: Nora Lowrey; sister, Ruby Lee Musgrove of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and brother, Jack Sliger and wife Carlene of Brownwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Thelma Sliger; brothers, Adam Sliger, Don Sliger, and Larry Dale Sliger; and sisters, Hazel Juanelle Sliger and Mickey “Delia Wright” Sliger.
