This month’s spotlight teacher is Renee Fraze. Ms. Fraze is an American Sign Language (ASL) teacher at Brownwood High School (BHS). Austin State University, a Master of Education degree in Interpreter Pedagogy from Northeastern University and is a Texas certified teacher (Generalist EC-4 and Secondary American Sign Language 6-12). Ms. Fraze shines bright in her position at BHS. She goes above and beyond for her students and BISD working on various sign language projects and videos like the signed National Anthem played at Gordon Wood Stadium. Ms. Fraze provides a variety of opportunities for students to be involved in ASL contests, ASL club, along with her establishment of the BHS ASL Honor Society. Ms. Fraze is a valuable member of the BISD family and her care and thoughtfulness is evident.
Brownwood ISD is blessed to have dedicated teachers like Ms. Fraze who continually seek out practical applications that offer students the means to learn, grow, and find success.
Our staff spotlight honoree for the month is Shelley Gowdy. Ms. Gowdy is a Physical Education Teacher’s Aide at Northwest Elementary. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Tech University and is a Texas certified Educational Aide. Ms. Gowdy has been with Brownwood ISD since 2018.
Ms. Gowdy is an asset to Northwest Elementary and always gives 110%. Working with students in PE class she is always thinking of great ways to have smooth transitions with specials, dismissals, and more. She helps Coach Evetts with many things and also assists the other specials teachers whenever she can. Northwest is lucky to have Ms. Gowdy!
Brownwood ISD is grateful for staff like Ms. Gowdy who go the extra mile always seeking out opportunities to provide creative solutions and assistance while looking out for our students and staff.
