Funeral services for Horace Hounshell, age 83, of Bangs, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Bangs church of Christ.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral from 12:00 until 1:30 PM.  Burial will follow in the Cross Cut Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Horace passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Abilene.

Horace was born May 21, 1939, in Grosvenor, Texas to William (Bud) and Cora “Cody” Hounshell. He grew up at North Cowden and attended Odessa High School.  After graduating high school in 1957 he moved to Abilene and soon after started work for Treanor Equipment. He was drafted into the Army in 1963 and after two years in Germany, he returned to Abilene. He met Wilma in 1958 and they dated off and on for several years. Horace and Wilma married on June 5, 1965, in Abilene. They lived there until 1967 when he was transferred to Odessa. He worked for Marklyn Controls for eight years.

Their three children were all born while in Odessa.  The family moved to Brown County in 1979. After a year of self-employment, he started working for Chaparral Pipeline, retiring in 2004. While in Odessa, Horace served as a deacon at the Eisenhower church of Christ. After moving to Brown County, he served as an elder at the Bangs church of Christ.

Horace was an excellent musician and loved to play the guitar and entertain people.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joann Roach. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma, his children Travis, Leslie, Troy and wife Denay, grandchildren Ava and AJ Hounshell; brother Gary Hounshell and wife Dana; brother Larry Hounshell; sister Mary Beth McMillian and husband Dennis; uncle JC Hounshell and wife Joyce; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Horace was a master craftsman, able to fix anything from houses to cars to musical instruments. He was known to restore instruments thought to be beyond repair for not only individuals but also professional repair shops and musicians.  He was a wonderful husband, father, Papa, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Heart of Texas Bible Camp, c/o Bangs church of Christ, PO Box 41, Bangs, TX 76823.
